Sustainability at MDI
We understand the importance of sustainable practices and are taking concrete steps to integrate environmental responsibility into our operations. We are constantly striving to use resources more responsibly, increase our use of renewable energy, reduce waste and introduce cleaner ways of working. Our approach starts with the areas where we can make the greatest difference; from the energy we use and how we move materials to how we conserve water and reduce waste.
Renewable Energy
We are increasing the role of renewable energy across our campus through on-site solar power. Our 350 kW solar installation currently supplies approximately one-third of our electricity requirements. We are continuing to expand the use of renewable energy, with a goal of meeting 60% of our requirements through renewable sources.
We also promote energy efficiency through LED lighting, energy-efficient equipment, HVAC and electrical systems, and smart energy monitoring, while periodically monitoring energy performance and working to reduce energy intensity and our environmental footprint.
Electric Mobility
We have incorporated cleaner mobility into our day-to-day activities. Low-speed electric vehicles handle daily material transport across our 36-acre campus, while reducing reliance on fossil fuels. These mdi-branded e-rickshaws ensure our internal supply chain is as sustainable as the solutions we manufacture.
Water Conservation, Reuse and ZLD
We are committed to responsible water management by reducing freshwater consumption and maximising the reuse of treated water. Treated wastewater from our sewage treatment system is reused for gardening, landscaping, and other suitable non-potable applications wherever technically feasible.
We are also implementing Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) principles through advanced treatment, water recovery and reuse to minimise wastewater discharge and environmental impact. We continue to adopt water-efficiency measures, process optimisation, and improved wastewater recovery as part of our resource conservation efforts.
Rainwater Harvesting
Rainwater harvesting complements our water reuse efforts. Rainwater collected across the campus is directed into the ground to support groundwater recharge and replenish the water table. This productive use of rainwater supports responsible water management over the longer term.
Green Campus and Sustainable Farming
MDI promotes responsible land use, with a significant majority of the campus area covered by a lush, well-integrated green belt, complemented by landscaped areas, plantation zones and dedicated agricultural land for sustainable farming. These green spaces contribute to a greener, healthier, and more sustainable campus ecosystem.
Digitalization and Paper Reduction
We are committed to move towards a more digital and paperless workplace. Our internally developed digital management system supports internal communication, documentation and other processes, helping reduce paperwork and streamline how information is managed.
Responsible Use of Energy and Resources
We encourage the responsible use of electricity, water and other resources across our facilities, including managing energy consumption during non-productive hours and avoiding unnecessary use. We also promote energy efficiency through LED lighting, energy-efficient equipment, HVAC and electrical systems, and smart energy monitoring, while periodically monitoring energy performance and working to reduce energy intensity and our environmental footprint.
Climate Action & GHG Management
MDI is committed to progressively reducing its GHG emissions and carbon footprint as part of our long-term sustainability journey. We are strengthening our GHG inventory and working towards the systematic assessment and monitoring of Scope 1, Scope 2, and Scope 3 emissions to establish a clear emissions baseline, identify key sources, and implement targeted reduction measures.
Creating Social Impact
Our commitment to responsible ownership extends beyond our environmental practices. Through our CSR initiatives, we support education, healthcare, social awareness and the preservation of cultural heritage. These efforts reflect our belief that sustainable progress is not only about how we use resources, but also about how we contribute to the people and communities around us.
