Monoclonal Antibodies
Monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are monospecific antibodies that are identical as these are made by one type of immune cells that are all clones of a single parent cell.
mAbs can be produced against almost any given substance and as these are very specific to the substance, they are being used for detection (diagnostic) as well as treatment (therapeutic).
Diagnostic Applications:
- Biochemical analysis for diagnosis of pregnancy, cancers, humoral disorders, infectious diseases
Therapeutic Applications
- Direct use as therapeutic agents for disease-causing organisms, treatment of cancers, for post organ transplant, immunosuppression treatment of AIDS and autoimmune diseases
- As targeting agents in the therapy as immune toxins (for treatment of cancers), in drug delivery, for dissolving blood clots, in radio-immunotherapy of tumors
